We ♥ Beginners

“You cannot ‘do’ yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.”

— Sharon Gannon

All of us were beginners once. I’ll never forget how nervous I was walking into a yoga studio for my first class. Mostly I was afraid that I wasn’t going to know something basic that would wind up embarrassing me.

First thing to know is, there’s no need to be nervous or feel embarrassed! You are among nice people. Relax, and know that you are in a comfortable, loving space. We remember what it felt like to be a beginner, and in a sense, we are all still beginners, regardless of how long we’ve practiced.

We have tailored a class just for you: Yoga for Beginners, every Saturday afternoon from 4:00-5:30pm. We’ll have a different focus each week, and those will rotate, so don’t feel that you’ve missed anything. Just come. We’ll do the rest.

Something else you can do before coming to your first yoga class, or if you would even just like to deepen your knowledge, is a little reading and research.

  • We really love this article on MindBodyGreen which is a library of poses broken down for beginners into categories…seated, standing, backbends, forward bends, arm balances, restorative, etc…
  • We wrote a blog post about what you should know before you go. Check it out.
